4nature seeks to ensure that the natural environments of Australia and the South Pacific survive and thrive. 

4nature supports the conservation of nature through targeted and strategic interventions and activities.

In 2025 we began broadening our work to include international engagement and advocacy to address the global drivers of invasive species.

For our first 15 years, the main focus has been to protect a 20,000 hectare conservation area on Kolombangara Island in Solomon Islands as part of a partnership with a landholders’ conservation association. This work continues to expand.

We provide ongoing support to community efforts to protect the natural environment of the Greater Blue Mountains.

Between 2015 and 2017 we successfully took to court Centennial Coal, owners of the Springvale underground coal mine near Lithgow, to prevent the pollution of Sydney’s drinking water by contaminated mine wastewater. In 2025 we joined the Gardens of Stone Alliance to support their efforts of limiting the damaging to the spectacular Gardens of Stone area and the downstream World Heritage Area from coal mines and Mt Piper Power Station.

We are also advancing an international initiative to address the drivers of invasive species and developing strategies to better address the impacts of invasive plants and animals on the Greater Blue Mountains.

In 2023 we supported legal efforts by Nature Defenders to prevent the leasing of the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area for an adventure theme park and luxury accommodation.

In 2017, 4nature received the Marie Byles Award for the year’s most outstanding environmental campaign from the Nature Conservation Council of NSW. We were recognised for our work being ‘the most inspiring community action initiative’ in recognition of our prolonged court case against Centennial Coal.
