Driving global policy reform for biosecurity
After initial support from 4nature, Invasives International was established as a standalone organisation in February 2026. Registered as an Australian charity, Invasives International will lead systemic reform in how the world manages invasive species, to address the primary drivers of species introductions at their source.
Why this work is urgent
Target 6 of the Global Biodiversity Framework mandates a 50% reduction in the rate of invasive species introductions by 2030. To meet this target, the international community must look beyond local management and independent national actions.
Invasives International is leading global policy reform that secures international trade and travel pathways.
Invasives International will promote a ‘rising tide’ approach. By strengthening global trade and travel rules through robust, universal biosecurity standards, we can ensure nature-positive outcomes for all nations, regardless of their internal resource capacity.
Partnering with the IUCN Species Survival Commission
Invasives International has been working closely with the IUCN SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG). It is seeking to strengthen that relationship by proposing to host a new Centre for Species Survival in partnership with the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC).
Working closely with the IUCN will allow the organisation to bridge a critical gap in global environmental governance by bringing an expert voice to international trade and transport forums.
